Just Stop Talking...

When you are pregnant or you are trying to have a baby, people feel the need to say the craziest things to you and give you unsolicited "advice." I don't know what it is about being pregnant that makes people say the things they do. Some times people start talking when they really should just stop! I have compiled a list of things I have heard. If you ever feel the urge to say these things to a pregnant person or someone who is trying to become pregnant, take my advice and JUST STOP TALKING!

When you know someone is trying to become pregnant and it's talking longer than planned, DO NOT say:

  1. Just relax and don't stress it.
  2. It will happen when it happens.
  3. If they already have one kid, do not say, "Well at least you have one."
  4. It might just not be a part of Gods plan for you.
  5. You can have my kids. hahahaha
  6. You are so lucky. Just enjoy your time without kids!
Believe me when I say, NONE of those phrases will make them feel better! The comments about how you are so lucky you can sleep and enjoy your time alone or best yet "you can have my kids," just make people trying to have a baby want to punch you in the face.

When someone is pregnant DO NOT say:

  1. You look ready to pop.
  2. Are you sure you aren't having twins? - Why do people feel the need to say this?? all.the.time?
  3. Was it planned? / Was it an accident? - Really its none of your business!
  4. You are hoping for a girl/boy, right?
  5. You can't eat that?! - If I want to eat my coldcut sandwich and wash it down with a nice can of Coke. Do not judge me.
  6. Oh, you must be so disappointed it's not a boy/girl! - When you already have one of a certain gender, people just expect you to be disappointed if you don't get one of each.
  7. Well.. you can always try again. - umm just walk away before I punch you.
  8. Wow, you are going to be pregnant all summer? Really bad planning on your part! - Yes, thank you so much for that brilliant observation.
  9. Wow, that is going to be a big baby! - This is just a nice way of saying I look huge.
  10. You must be having a girl, they just suck all the beauty right out of you. - A stranger actually said that to me. It took all I had not to punch them in the face or to ask them if they were also pregnant with a girl.
Husbands, here are a few phrases you should not say to your pregnant and hormonal wife:
  1. If you find your wife laying on the couch when you come home, "Well, what did you do all day?" - Oh you know...I'm just growing a human. What did you do today????
  2. Are you really going to eat all that?!
  3. Why are you always so tired?- Please refer to #1!
One last piece of advice for all, if you are not 100% sure that someone is pregnant (like you know them personally and they confirmed they are pregnant), do not ask them, "When are you due?" - or you might just hear, "You see that baby in the stroller?? I had her 3 weeks ago! Thanks." :)

This is me, ready to pop the day before I went into labor with Makenna.  I'm such a slacker with taking pictures this pregnancy!

What are some crazy things people have said to you while pregnant or trying to get pregnant? I need a whole separate post on the advice people give you for labor and after the baby is born!! Please feel free to share your stories below!
